My 2023 Reflections: How to Live with Intention

December 19, 2023

My 2023 reflections

In the blink of an eye, another year has almost come and gone! As we take on the last few weeks of 2023, December feels like the perfect time for reflection. It’s both the end of a chapter and the start of something new (especially for me, since I will be marking another trip around the sun on December 22). I’ve never been one to pressure myself with New Year’s resolutions, but I do find myself counting my blessings and looking back on the life lessons that were reinforced for me this past year. Here are some of my biggest takeaways from my 2023 reflections:

Listen to Your Intuition

Learning how to listen to my own intuition has taken me far personally and professionally this year. Whether I was making decisions to take on new clients or choosing an item in a holiday gift exchange, I always found my way back to the idea that things work out for the best when I am true to myself.

Someone once told me that “sometimes the best business decisions are the clients you don’t take.” Not every client is going to be a good fit and that’s okay. You can’t satisfy everyone all of the time and, frankly, you shouldn’t try to. In the past, there have been times when I have bent over backwards for clients, only to find that they still weren’t satisfied. That was always very hard for me to accept. It felt like failure.

However, for every challenging client, there is an opportunity for a meaningful connection, too. I am lucky to have so many great clients that have become good friends. This past year has taught me how important it is to stick to my own values and trust that the rest will fall into place.

Check In with Yourself

It’s also important to check in with yourself every so often and make sure that you are moving forward through your life with intention. Are you making time for the things that make you happy? In my experience, getting organized is one of the best ways to make sure that happens.

There are a few different ways that I like to get organized, so that I can make time for self-care. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Get a good planner: You can’t make time for the things you enjoy if you don’t know how to manage it wisely. This planner will help you make sure you are working through your to-do list efficiently, so that you can stay on track with your time throughout the week. Don’t forget to block out some time each week for self-care, too!
  • Use scent to stay focused: When I’m feeling distracted working from my home office, a familiar scent helps to keep me focused on the present. Candles, reed diffusers, and essential oils are all great choices. Personally, I love this essential oil from Saje.
  • Cut the clutter and do something new: Get a massage. Go for a walk. Book the trip you have always wanted to take. You might be surprised to discover how fulfilling and liberating it is to cut out the clutter and focus on living in the moment instead.

Earlier this year, I decided to finally take a ski trip I had been dreaming about for a long time. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made! It inspired me to buy an Ikon Pass. Now I am looking forward to my first ski trip in Aspen, Colorado in February 2024!

Leave a Legacy That Matters

At the end of the day, it’s not what you have, who you know, or even where you go – it’s what you do to help others. Looking back on my experiences this year, #iBelieve now more than ever that heart is everywhere. It’s wonderful to see so many people around me who want to bring about positive change in the world. I’m a firm believer that the more good you put out there, the more good will come back to you.

My number one goal as a professional organizer is to help others live with intention. Yes, I get paid to share my organizing expertise. But what I do means so much more than the money to me. I want to leave a legacy that makes a difference in my community.

My team and I are passionate about finding the best ways to organize our clients’ homes, so that they are less stressed and better able to live in the moment. After all, you can’t live clearly with clutter in your life! If you need some support, don’t hesitate to reach out.

With all of that being said, I would like to wrap up my 2023 reflections by expressing my gratitude for my amazing clients and the supportive team that works with me to make life less stressful. LA Move Consultants wouldn’t be possible without all of you. So, from my family to yours, I wish you happy holidays and peace in the New Year!
