Working with a move manager

Moving can be very exciting. But for many, the excitement may also be accompanied by intense feelings of stress and overwhelm. If you’re already feeling overwhelmed by clutter, the thought of making decisions about what to keep, packing it all up, and reorganizing it in a new space may seem like too much for one person (or family) to handle. This is when it can be helpful to consider working with a move manager!

Our team at LA Move Consultants can lighten your load with expert move management services. We will guide you through the moving process, help you make the tough decisions, and make sure that no details are overlooked. All you have to do is enjoy this exciting time in your life without worry.  Keep reading to learn more about what you can expect from us, and how we can help you make your new house feel like home.

Step 1: Getting to Know You

The process of working with a move manager can begin as soon as you have made the choice to move. Ideally, this would be before your house is actually on the market. It is best to get us involved as soon as possible, so that we have enough time to get to know you and learn about your specific needs.

To get started, we will have a free meet and greet call to chat about the details of your move and make sure that our team is a good fit for you. Then, we will schedule our first in-person walk-through in your current space to understand exactly what your upcoming move involves. We will ask questions to learn more about your lifestyle needs, how you want things to work, and how you use certain spaces in your home. With over a decade of experience behind us, we know all of the right questions to ask to make sure that we set up your space in a practical, comfortable way.

After the initial walk-through, we will recommend a custom package based on your needs and goals for your move. Our minimum service package is a 4-hour, half-day session. This is when the purging begins. We will help you revisit all of your belongings, sorting them into three categories: trash, donate, and keep. We will work space by space to pull everything out and categorize it, keeping only the items that you truly need or want. Whenever possible, we will take donation and trash piles with us at the end of the day to give you some instant relief from the clutter.

Step 2: Move Preparation

Now that we have set all of the expectations for your upcoming move, it’s time to dive in! We will help you get 2 to 3 competitive bids from movers. After years in the industry, we have a huge referral network of trusted professionals, so we can absolutely help you get the support you need. Unlike some other move management services, we aren’t concerned with referrals or kickbacks from movers. Your best interests are always our first priority, so we set you up with the best!

It’s important to note that you will be responsible for hiring the mover directly.

From there, it’s on to space planning! We’ll identify what existing organization products will or won’t transfer to your new home, so that we can make a detailed shopping list for what you’ll need. We want to make your new home as functional as possible from the very first day you move in. Our team will measure your new home, so that we can suggest the best products to organize closets, pantries, and other living spaces.

Unlike many other organizers and designers, we do not include markups on the products we buy for you. We know that moving can be expensive, but organizing after a move doesn’t have to break the bank. We care about keeping costs down whenever possible. That’s why we pass our discounts and savings directly to you.

Step 3: One Week Before the Big Move

Three words: Inventory. Inventory. Inventory. We are going to create a detailed list of everything that is making this move with you. Our team doesn’t just stop at furniture and large items. We’ll inventory exactly what is in every box! If you are putting some things in storage or getting ready for a long distance move, we will get even more detailed with our inventory list. It may include photos and additional documentation, so that it is easy to find and reference items quickly.

Your movers will do the actual packing, but we are the prep work pros! We will create “go bags” and “open first” boxes, so that you can sleep in your bed with clean sheets and make dinner in your new space on day 1. While the movers are still loading your belongings at your old home, we will already be at your new home, setting up organization systems and putting organizing products in place.

We will make sure that everything is packed as efficiently as possible, so that the entire moving process goes smoothly. Our goal is to use everyone’s time wisely. For example, we ask movers to pack furniture at the back of the moving truck, and boxes at the front, so that we can start unpacking and putting things away as soon as the truck arrives at your new home.

We can also help you create a plan for your furry family members on moving day. Having them around while everyone is unloading and unpacking can be chaotic and stressful for both you and your pets. That’s why it’s so important to plan ahead. We will treat your pets like the family members that they are, making sure that they are comfortable and safe during the moving process. That means one less thing that you will have to worry about on moving day!

By the end of moving day, you can expect to find everything in its place, with very few boxes left to unpack yourself. Your new house will be ready for you when you arrive, so that you can simply enjoy living in it!

Step 4: The Two-week Tweak

When you work with us, we want to make sure that you are happy with our services long after moving day. We will reach out two weeks after your move for a follow up visit. During this visit, we’ll check that everything is working as it should be and that all of the organization systems we have put into place are helpful to you. If anything needs to be tweaked at that time, we will provide recommendations and solutions to help you live a more organized and less stressful life in your new home.
