Does anyone else feel like even though the days are getting longer, time is slipping away faster than ever? From email to tax prep to spring home updates to self-care, it seems like there is never enough time in the day to get everything done.
As a professional organizer, I can certainly empathize with the challenges of balancing a busy schedule and finding time for what makes you happy. I recently realized that I haven’t seen my sister in close to a month, and she only lives 10 miles away! I love what I do, but after an 8- to 10-hour day on my feet, it’s not surprising that all I want to do is come home and unwind. We all experience burnout every now and then. It’s important to recognize that life is a series of waves, and learning to ride them is key.
Sometimes, all you need is a change in your environment or routine to give you a fresh perspective on life. Take my own experience with the desk in my home office as an example. I realized that I have been choosing to work in bed a lot lately to avoid sitting at my desk in my chair. The setup no longer serves me well, causing more stress than it’s worth. After using it for nine years, I’ve decided that it’s time for a change.
While most people are inspired to make changes at the beginning of the year, spring offers the perfect opportunity for renewal and growth. It’s not just about spring cleaning and tackling clutter (although that is an important part of it). A refresh can also mean surrounding yourself with things that make you happy. Whether it’s reorganizing your workspace or painting a wall in your living room, small, meaningful changes have a big impact on your well-being.
Take a look below at some of my favorite ways to make changes and bring harmony to your home this season:
1. Add a Fresh Coat of Paint:
Nothing says “spring” like a fresh coat of paint! Consider adding a pop of color with an accent wall in your living room, bedroom, or kitchen. Light colors and earthy pastels will help to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside for a sense of calm, or you can go with a trendy color for a modern update.
Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year is Peach Fuzz. It’s bright and cheerful, making it a fun addition to liven up any room in your home.
2. Swap Out Textiles:
Say goodbye to dark winter fabrics and hello to lighter, brighter textiles. Spring is the perfect time to switch out curtains, throws, and pillows for materials in cheerful colors and floral patterns. If you ask me, this floral rug from Ruggable is an instant mood booster!
3. Bring In Greenery:
Since spring is all about growth, I can’t think of a better way to incorporate that into your home than with fresh flowers, potted plants, or even a small indoor herb garden. You can play with height by displaying potted plants on tiered plant stands. Not only do plants breathe life into a space, but they also improve air quality.
4. Declutter and Organize:
A clutter-free space can work wonders for your peace of mind! Take advantage of this season to do some spring cleaning, too. Sort through closets, cabinets, and drawers, purging items you no longer need and investing in practical storage solutions to keep things organized long-term. Personally, I love these stackable storage bins from mDesign. They help me make sure that my belongings have a place to live, so that I always know exactly where to find them. Of course, if you’re short on time, you can always reach out to us for help as well.
5. Try a New Scent:
Using scents can help you stay calm and focused throughout your day, too. Try infusing your home with the invigorating scents of spring using candles, diffusers, or room sprays. Light fragrances like lavender, jasmine, or citrus will inspire feelings of renewal and rejuvenation. Some of my favorite candles are from Paddywax. Their meyer lemon and verbena eucalyptus scents offer a breath of fresh air for spring.
