When it comes to hiring a professional organizer, what do you look for? Most of you probably ask a friend if they know anyone who can organize your space. Or maybe you go to Instagram to find someone who has perfect “after” photos and inspiration. These actions might inspire you to start your search, but they may not help you find the right professional organizer for you.
Beware: not all professional organizers are equal in their expertise. Instead of hopping online and hiring the first person you find, it’s important to do some thorough research first. You want to find a professional you can trust – someone you are comfortable letting into your home. A top-notch professional organizer will have credibility. They will demonstrate that they are invested in the industry through continued education and community involvement. I’m a firm believer that you have to continue learning and growing to keep improving your business. The best way to identify effective new solutions is through continued education. Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of helping to organize NAPO 2023 Summit, the annual trade show for the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals. The event featured three days of career development and learning at Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort. There were various options for professional organizers who are at different stages in their careers. The schedule included interactive sessions, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and learning labs for continued education. I even had the opportunity to present! It was motivating to discover what is new in the industry. I left feeling more confident about how to make a positive impact in my clients’ lives. My trip got me thinking about what’s next for my business and the industry. It seems like a lot of professional organizers aren’t engaging in this conversation yet. But I think it’s time to change that. My business is all about finding solutions to organizing dilemmas. My clients are trusting me to give them expert advice. Knowing this, I feel responsible to do the ongoing work of finding and implementing the most innovative solutions for my clients.
